The Role of CT in Staging Bladder Carcinoma

Abstract

|
Clinical and CT staging were compared in 22 patient with surgically and/or pathologically confirmed stage of bladder carcinoma. The overall accuracy of CT staging was 68%, The overall accuracy of CT in predicting lymph node metastasis was 86%. The sensitivity was 33% and the specificity was 95%.
The major role of CT was in the evaluation of perivesical fat, seminal vesicle, prostate ant lymph node for invasion (stage D1).
The overall accuracy of clinical staging was 82%. Clinical staging was useful in staging stage B or less.
CT was essential in clinical stage B or more (especially, upper tract change on IVP, solid appearance on cystoscopy and tumor in bladder base).
